When it comes to great wine, Strandveld is really hard to beat! (I mean, I love it so much that it was our wine of choice for our wedding back in 2016!) The crisp, flinty minerality in their First Sighting Sauvignon Blanc is just perfect in my books… and that is just one of their entry wines, so you can only imagine what their flagship range holds.
Their award winning wines, combined with super cute cottages, made this an easy choice for our first stop on our #WesternCapeWinterBreaks2017 travel plans this year, so off we set a few weeks ago.
Strandveld Vineyards is situated past Bredasdorp, about 2.5 hrs drive from Cape Town, and the accommodation offers two 1-bedroom self catering units, fully equipped with an indoor braai, kitchen, cosy lounge and dining room. Plus each unit has en-suite bathrooms which boasts a shower & bath.
The tasting room is just a stones throw away from the cottages and we were treated to a super wine tasting on the Saturday, hosted by the ever-friendly Shannon, in the newly renovated tasting room. The space is bright and light and features the different terroirs that the vines are grown in as well as a beautiful wine display.
The Strandveld Wines comprises of their everyday drinking wines, the First Sighting range, and their Premium wines, the Strandveld range. To read more about these or order them online, click here. My stand out wine for the day was defintely the Pinot Noir, a wine which isn’t normally high on my priority list (I am a Shiraz lover after all!)….The Strandveld Pinot Noirs are exceptional! They hold their own and are beautifully rounded, full of flavour and will definitely be filling my winter red wine shelve this year! Marks favourite was the Suikerbekkie Noble Late Harvest, made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes and matured in aged French Oak. It is only released in exceptional years and does not disappoint. Its crisp and clear and deliciously sweet!
We spent our evening stargazing, cooking and sipping on decidedly delicious wines, enjoying the perfect silence & absolute calm that only Elims Farm life can offer!
Thank you to Jackie & Shannon from Strandveld for hosting us!
